Show 344 Sociology Major or Sociology Teaching Major BACHELOR DEGREE (B.S. OR B.A.) » Program Prerequisite: Not required for the Sociology major. Sociology Teaching majors must meet the Teacher Education admission and certification requirements (see Teacher Education Department). » Minor: Required » Grade Requirements: A minimum grade of "C" in courses counted toward the major (a grade of "C-" is not acceptable). Also refer to the general grade requirements for graduation on page 36. Sociology Teaching majors must achieve an overall GPA of 3.00 for admission to the Teacher Education Program. » Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours is required for graduation, of which 40 must be upper division credit hours (courses numbered 3000 and above). A minimum of 36 Sociology credit hours are required for the major. Transfer students who are majoring in Sociology can transfer up to 18 hours from an acceptable Sociology program. Only 9 of the tiansfeired hours can be lower division. Advisement Sociology majors are assigned to a faculty advisor and are encouraged to meet with that advisor annually for course and program advisement. Call 801-626-6241 for additional information. SOCIOLOGY DEPARTMENTAL HONORS » Program Prerequisite: Enroll in the General Honors Program and complete 6 hours of General Honors courses (see the Honors Program on page 43). » Grade Requirements: Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3. » Credit Hour Requirements: Fulfill the requirements for the Sociology major or the Sociology Teaching major, of which at least 12 hours must be completed on an Honors basis. A student may receive Honors credit in any upper division Sociology course with the exception of SOC 4830 and SOC 4890.* In addition, complete the Sociology Honors Senior Project of 3 hours. * Pennission from the Sociology coordinator should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate instructor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See the Honors Program on page 43.)
