English Teaching majors must achieve an overall GPA of 3.00 for admission to the Teacher Education program. » Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours is required for graduation - a minimum of 39 of these must be English courses. A total of 40 upper division credit hours is required (courses numbered 3000 and above) - a minimum of 36 of these must be English courses. Teaching majors must meet the Teacher Education admission and licensure requirements (see Teacher Education Department in this catalog). General Education English teaching majors may elect either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree as defined by this University catalog (refer pages 38-43). The Bachelor of Arts degree is recommended. PSY SS1010 (3) in the Social Science area is recommended. Consult with a departmental advisor for other detailed general education guidelines. English Teaching Methodology Block English Teaching Majors must enroll in ENGL 3020, 3400, 3410, and 3420 concurrently following completion of theft Secondary Education Core course work and just prior to Student Teaching. As part of this 12-hour block of methods course work, students will be required to complete a ten-week public school field experience. Student Teaching Student teaching takes place during Teacher Education Level III. Before student teaching, English majors must have completed all required Education courses and at least 33 credit hours from required English courses, including ENGL 3080, Critical Approaches to Literature, and the Methodology Block. A student may receive English Honors credit for any upper division English course (including Directed Readings, ENGL 4830, for a maximum of 3 hours).
