Show quirement provided the student can pass an examination or demonstrate in some other satisfactory manner his knowledge of the subject. Honors at GraduationHonors are awarded at graduation on completion of at least 90 credit hours at Weber College. A student whose average grade point in all registered work is 3.5 or above is awarded honors. Second Baccalaureate DegreeA student may qualify for a second baccalaureate degree by completing one full year of work in addition to that required for his first degree. He must complete all the requirements of the division from which he will receive his new degree. Specific Course Requirements All candidates must include in the 183 credits the following courses: Credits English 1, 2, 3 (Basic Communications) 9 Orientation 1 or equivalent 2 Health Education 1 (Health Education 2 for Engineers) 2 Physical Education (Students 30 years or over exempt) 3 (For specified activities see Physical Education Division) A student must satisfy the area requirements by completing a total of 40 credits in the following four areas: Humanities, Life Science, Physical Science and Social science. At least 9 credits, but not more than 12 credits in any one area, will be counted toward this requirement. In addition, women students are required to complete as part of the area requirements one approved course in the Department of Family Life. Area Requirements A student may satisfy the general education requirement by completing a total of 40 credit hours in the four areas of Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences. A minimum of 9 credit hours must be completed in each area. However, not more than 12 credit hours from an area will be counted in the total of 40 credit hours. A student with special problems or a student who needs specific courses for his major field may satisfy the general education requirements by substituting courses approved by the Division Chairman and the Graduation Committee. Humanities: The general education requirements in Humanities may be satisfied by completing either of the following options: (1) 9 to 12 credit hours selected from the introductory departmental courses or (2) 9 credit hours of the integrated sequence of courses. Option No. 1: Departmental Courses Courses must be chosen from at least two departments, one of which must be literature: Art- Art 31, Basic Design and Color (3) Art 41, General Drawing (3) Humanities 2, Introduction to Art (3) Literature, Speech and Drama Speech 40, Theatre Appreciation (3) Speech 42, Motion Pictures, Radio, and Television Appreciation (3) English 50, 51, 52, American Literature (3) (3) (3) English 60, Shakespeare (5) English 65, Modern British Literature (3) English 84, Modern Dramatic Literature English 88, 89, 90, Critical Approach to Fiction, Drama, Poetry (3) (3) (3) English 95, Biography (2) English 97, Authors of Today (2) English 170, The English Novel (3) English 173, Literature of the Bible (5) Music Music 7, 8, 9, Music Appreciation (3) (3) (3) Humanities 1, Introduction to Music (3) Philosophy Philosophy 1, Introduction to Philosophy (5) Philosophy 100, History of Philosophy (5) or Philosophy 115, Esthetics (5) Philosophy 150, History and Philosophy of Occidental Religions (3) or Philosophy 155, History and Philosophy of Oriental Religions (3) Option No. 2: The Integrated Sequence Humanities 1, Introduction to Music (3) Humanities 2, Introduction to Art (3) Humanities 3, Introduction to Literature (3) Life Sciences: The general education requirement in Life Sciences may be satisfied by completing either of the following options: (1) 9 to 12 credit hours selected from the introductory departmental courses or (2) 9 credit hours of the integrated sequence of courses. |
