Show SERVICES OF THE COLLEGE Student Personnel Services The development and coordination of Student Personnel Services is the responsibility of the Dean of Students. Under his direction, needed policies and procedures for student personnel are developed and recommended to the President and the Administrative Council. Those in charge of carrying out these assignments include: Merle E. Allen, Dean of Students; Mrs. Marva H. Gregory, Dean of Women; Ralph Marsden, Counselor; J. Farrell Shepherd, Director of the Weber College Union Building; G. Lamont Shupe, Union Building Program Director. GUIDANCE AND TESTING SERVICE The objective of the Guidance Service is to assist the student to make intelligent decisions regarding his personal, academic, and vocational needs. The central office is in Room 139, Building One. Organization for GuidanceWeber College has a long tradition of close cooperation between the student and the teacher. A student is encouraged to consult with his teachers and major department or division heads on his problems. Each student will be assigned a personal adviser appropriate to his academic major. He is encouraged to consult with this adviser on problems of registration as well as other academic and personal problems. When a student is reported doing unsatisfactory work or when he is on probation, he will be required to see his adviser immediately for personal consultation. The student will be responsible to his personal adviser to adjust his overall work load and affairs to give him reasonable chance of success in his program. The adviser may refer the student to the Counseling Office with recommendations for personal help at any time. (See Academic Regulations.) Pre-registration Testing and GuidanceEach Freshman is required to take the Placement Test prior to registration. These tests include an English, a science, and a mathematics achievement test. These tests are scheduled prior to the opening of each quarter. (See the calendar at the front of this catalogue.) A student planning entrance in the autumn quarter is encouraged to take these tests in April or May of his senior high school year. An out-of-state student may take the tests during the week prior to registration or he can submit the results of the American College Tests or the College Board Tests in lieu of the regular battery. |
