DIVISION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION Reed K. Swenson, Chairman The Division includes the departments of Intercollegiate Athletics, Health Education, Physical Education, and Recreation. The College Health Service Program is administered by the Division. Medical ExaminationA medical examination given by the family physician or the college physician at the initial entrance of each student. Required Physical EducationThree credit hours of approved physical activity courses during the Freshman year. Health EducationHealth Education 1 is required for graduation of all students except as provided in special curricula. Baccalaureate Degree Requirements Official acceptance as a candidate for a physical education major will be determined at the beginning of the junior year upon demonstration of satisfactory character and academic achievement. Foundation courses required for majors and minors in physical education and for minors in health education and recreation: Physiology 1, Sociology 1, Psychology 1, Physical Science 1, 2, Family Life 6, Bacteriology 1. Physical Education MajorForty-five hours of approved courses including the following: P.E. 57, 58, 59, 85; 10 hours of methods of activities, P.E. 150, 151, 153, 155, 157, 160, 161, 162, or 156, 163, 164. Health Education 105. Physical Education Teaching MajorSame requirements as above plus education requirements for the secondary or elementary teaching certificates. Minors will be offered in Physical Education, Health Education, and Recreation by fulfilling 25 hours of approved courses as follows: Physical Education MinorTwenty-five hours of approved courses including P.E. 85, (57, 58, 59), 153, 161, 157, or 162, and 20 hours of methods. Health Education MinorTwenty-five hours of approved courses including H.E. 1, 103, 110, 112, Family Life 6, Psychology 14, and Bacteriology 5. Recreation MinorTwenty-five hours of approved courses including P.E. 57, 58, 59, H.E. 105, and Rec. 155, 153, P.E. 108, 105, 106. Special emphasis on health education, recreation, coaching,
