Show 9- ship it by rail from Cedar City, Utah to Long Beach, Calif. The outlook for the domestic ore producer for 1961 is dismal indeed, for the iron ore stocks at the end of the year were over 70,000,000 tons, up 14 million tons from a year earlier. The indication is that newly mined ore from Lake Superior ports will drop to 40 million tons, down from 66 million tons last year and the lowest level since 1938. This situation is undoubtedly temporary, may have some effect on foreign mines controlled by U.S. mills, but the independently owned mines abroad continue to enjoy a brisk demand for ore in the European and Japan markets. |
