Show cleaned up in a hot shower and that she would prepare supper for them. The word is that Guy was just beginning to thaw out in a hot shower when around the end of the shower curtain came the little lady's hand, holding a welcome scotch and water. My own favorite is the time when we were planning to build a grain elevator in Stockton and the owner was very anxious to expedite the construction so that it could be completed for the harvest season. To facilitate this a meeting was called with the engineering firm from Seattle that had. designed the elevator, the owner, and Guy. After the owner explained what he was after, Guy was asked if construction could be started without final plans and Guy agreed that we would not have to have completed plans for the whole project at once, but if they would send over parts of the plans as they were completed we could get under way. The engineer allowed that they could do this and he asked Guy what part of the plans he wanted first. Guy slammed down his pencil and replied: "God Damn It, I knew we built the Boulder Dam all wrong. We should have built the top of it first and then we could have worked five years in the shade". Now, if I may close on a more serious note. I could detail to you Guy's long record of accomplishments with the company, but these are well known to you, for each of you is here because Guy asked that you be invited. Rather, I would like to share with you the letter that I wrote to Guy on the date of his retirement. -4- |
