Show NEWS VIEWS By Frank Francis When the cadet band from the Ogden High school arrives in Chicago, en route to the contest at Gary, the Chicago American has arranged to have the young musicians met at the depot by 100 mounted policemen, who will lead them in parade. At the American office, they will be photographed and then taken as the guests of the paper to dinner and to the theatres. A round of pleasure has been prepared because their fame has preceded them. Mr. Bricket, manager of the American a place worth while. He was en¬tertained while here and is await-ing the opportunity to show his appreciation. The cadets will be in the hands of friends while in Chicago, and, for the day at least, Ogden will loom large in the affairs of that great city. That, is a fine thing the Ro¬tarians did on Wednesday when the call came to help the band. The individuals of the organ¬ization voluntarily offered to send 14 boys, and then it was suggested the body assess themselves $10 each to help defray the expenses of other boys. Mencken, the editor of Mercury, has directed many a gibe at Ro¬tarians. It may be the spectacular writer has never come in contact with the spirit of Rotary such as prompts a group of men to gladden the hearts of boys as did the Ogden Rotarians on Wed¬nesday. What a big mistake any man makes who tries to see the bad and never catches up with the good in the souls of men, whether the men be Rotarians or just plain amen. In the Ogden organization there is a real desire to serve the com¬munity, and there is as much good as is to be found in any similar body of men the world around devoted to something more than self. |
