Show Monday's contest is booked for 8 o'clock sharp. A ticket cam¬paign by students of the school will be initiated in the business district during the afternoon. President Wilson, in speaking of the game, said: "We gladly give our consent to our boys playing Ogden to assist in defraying the expenses of the team to Chicago. Some people say we are foolish, as we have nothing to gain, but we do not so regard it. "We are playing the contest to show our good will and in the in¬terest of the boys and of good sportsmanship. The boys can all have a fine educational trip to¬gether and we are glad to do our part." PRAISE SAINTS. Principal A. M. Merrill of the Ogden High school, an ardent booster for athletics said: "The L. D. S.-Ogden game one week ago was the greatest game of basket¬ball I ever saw. Ogden won the first three-quarters, but the Saints nosed them out in the fatal fourth. The teams are certainly matched and the U. S. H. S. A. A. certainly did the right thing in recommend¬ing to Chicago authorities that Ogden should be invited to enter the national contest along with L. D. S. Better than this the asso¬ciation authorities have consented to contribute $250 to help the Og¬den team pay the expense of tho jaunt. We appreciate very much this courtesy. "Nor can we speak too highly of the good sportsmanship of Vadal Peterson, coach of the L. D. S„ and the other authorities of the school in offering to participate in the great exhibition contest Mon¬day night. It will give the Ogden people a chance to see one of the best high school basketball games ever played in the state of Utah. In the winning, neither team will have much to lose or gain, so the matter of winning will be of little concern. "The game will be played to meet the expenses of the Ogden team and incidentally give Ogden people a chance to witness these great players in action. We are sure that both teams will reflect credit upon the state in their fine work at Chicago. We expect the biggest crowd ever gathered at a basketball game in Ogden, and we also expect sufficient revenue from the game to finance the trip. We know the people of Ogden are be¬hind us." |
