Road Deaths Total 206, Rise of 10. Yet 1951 road deaths mounted to 206, to place the year third in number of persons killed in the 18 years records have been kept by the state. The latest annual toll was about 10 higher than the 1950 total of 188 killed. Consumption Rises. Officials pointed out that the past year was one in which gasoline consumption increased almost 15 and vehicular registrations may see a similar rise. Utah Safety Council released a report Monday indicating economic loss for the year was more than 3,000,000 as a result of the fatality accidents alone. In addition to the 206 persons killed, 329 others were injured in the same accidents. At years end, with 20 new men on the State Highway Patrol, a general crackdown on carelss driving over the state had slowed the grim reaper during November and December, but the net result of 1951 traffic in Utah was not a nice picture. Ten more patrolmen are to be added during January.
