GREENWELLOgden's Community Weber College concert series came to a resounding finale for the season last night in the Ogden high school auditorium with the popular First Piano Quartet providing the concert.Doubtless the controversy as to whether one good man at one good piano isn't better than four good men at four pianos will continue to rage and never be satisfied, and meanwhile the piano quartet will continue to pack auditoriums andbe showered with enthusiastic applause.the Haydn string quartet finale Glauco D'Attili, Frank Mittler, Adam Garner and Edward Edson, the four marvelous technicians of the quaret, do more than furnish a novelty program.For they are musical artists with a rare sense of ensemble playing, employing multi pianos not for the sake of greater volume but for richer harmonic and rhythmic effects.Brilliant PlayingPaganini, Bach, Haydn, Schubertand Gounod were the composerrepresented in the first group in which the arrangement based on stood out as a remarkable example of clear and brilliant ensemble piano playing.Prokofieff, Chopin, Wagner and Ravel received lavish interpretation after the first intermission, and then came the quartet's famous performance of Lecuona, Debussy, Milhaud, Paderewski and Sarasate, with the ensemble doing especially charming service to the poetic Debussy.The quartet displayed further versatility and popularity in the generous performance of encore pieces and sent the large audience home enthusiastic and satisfied.
