Marsden, Daniel L. Martino, Stanford L. Martin. Baccalaureate Degree Requirements Candidates for the B.A. or the B.S. degree must complete at least 186 hours of work. At least 60 of the 186 hours must be upper division courses. Music Teaching MajorTo satisfy requirements for the baccalaureate degree with a Music Teaching Major, the student shall complete the courses as listed, of which 20 hours shall be in applied music. Not more than 5 credit hours of private instruction may count toward the applied music requirement. One solo recital is required of each candidate for the Music Teaching Major, to be presented during the senior year. It is recommended that each student complete 25 hours in either German or French, or 15 hours in each. All candidates must acquire practical skill at the piano. This requirement is also a prerequisite for courses 21, 22, 73, 173, 176 and 179. The following courses are required for the Music Teaching Major: Music History and Literature, Appreciation (9 hours): Music 7, 8, 9, or 107, 108, 109. Music Education (8 hours): Music 21 or 22; Music 24, 25, 26, 27, select 3 of 4; Music 120. Applied Music (20 hours): Select from the following, with guidance from department, no more than 5 hours of which may be in private workMusic 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 50, 55, 60, 66, 140,141,142,143,144,145, 150,155, 160. Music Theory (21 hours): Music 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 173, 174, 175, 179. All courses in Applied Music may be repeated for credit. Music Teaching MinorThe following courses are required for the Music Teaching Minor: Music Theory (15 hours): Music 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75 Applied Music (5 hours): Select from Music 40, 50 or 60 In addition, the student shall have completed the course in either Music 1, 7, 8, or 9, to satisfy area requirements in the Humanities Division.
