Description	This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins.

OCR Text	Show Standard May 11 52. Real Surprise! It was one grand trip for Dr and Mrs. Edward I. Rich. They returned just in time to celebrate the 81 birthday anniversary of Mrs. Rich and were surprised by members of their family with a delightful birthday dinner at their home. Mrs. Joseph W. Brewer and Dr and Mrs. Heber C Hancock were in charge. But the biggest surprise was that all their housecleaning was done. (Happy days!) The Riches left by plane and were met at the airport in Washington DC by their son and daughter in law Col and Mrs. thair Rich. Richard Rich is studying at the George Washington Medical School and Ruth is training at the Catholic hospital there. Col Rich who is stationed at the Pentagon, took his leave so that he could spend his time with his parents during their stay and really show them Washington. Dr and Mrs Rich also visited their grandchildren, Mr and mrs. Ralph Hardy. (Mr Hardy is connected with radio and television.) Mrs. Rich was thrilled to be invited to a luncheon with Mrs. Hardy at the Statler hotel and to make a conducted tour through the White House at the invitation of Mrs. Truman. Senator and Mrs. Arthur V Watkins (Mrs. Watkins is a nice of Dr. Rich) gave a dinner and reception for all the Rich relatives in Washington. They also were invited to have lunch at the Senators cafeteria in the capitol. The Hardys also had the family for dinner at their home, celebrating Mr Hardys birthday anniversary. Then the Richs were entertained by the Clair Stouts and Mr and Mrs. Jay Glasmann (Sharlene Brewer) A highlight of their trip was a visit to the Pentagon, which employs 28,000 government employes. The Riches said that the pink and white dogwood, along with azaleas and flowering trees were some of the beautiful sights of their trip. They ran on to Gen and Mrs. Robert M Hardaway who asked them to give their best wishes to all their Ogden friend. Gen Hardaway was commander at Bushnell during World War II. The Riches were away 10 days and returned by plane Wednesday. Monday, May 12. Nice warm day. I went down town & did some shopping. I wrote to Senator Arthur V Walkins and Ralph W Hardy & family. Telephoned Ben L Rich and Abel S Rich about meeting Sunday 230 PM to arrange for Family reunion in August Dr Jr and Blanche called in evening. Tuesday, May 13. Nice day. have been home all day. Wrote to Mary & Mr Mrs Clair Stout in Wash DC. Had served at wards.
