Show Thursday, July 17. Nice day. Wrote to Edith Rich about family reunion Talked to Hugh Dem about reunion. Letters from Thair. Best in 30 Years Performance of Haydn The Creation Thrills Local Audience. By Darrell J. Greenwell. Sunday morning was a grand time for making music and a right good job of music making was done at the Ogden tabernacle. There Lester Hinchcliff and the Ogden Oratorio society, complete with fine choir, three splendid soloists and an excellent orchestra performed Haydns oratorio, The Creation. and they did it to the great pleasure of a large audience which has now been trained to get up early and be in their seats by 7 oclock. Some of those present who have been attending renditions of the oratorio for more than 30 years thought this was the best all around performance of The Creation ever given here. Mayor George Frost was tenor soloist and City Councilman Austin Seager, bass, which causes a reviewer to wonder whether any other city in this land can boast of a city council possessing two vocalists capable of taking star roles in a classic oratorio. In Grand Voice. Miss Lois Hobson was the soprano. The soloists sang in grand voice and in fine style the great airs, trios and duets of the oratorio. The audience will not soon forget the melodious soprano songs, With Verdure Clad and On Might Pens from Miss Hobson, the noble In Native Worth from Mayor Frost and the stirring Rolling In Foaming Billows from Mr. Seager. The choir was good in all the famous choruses but was really magnificent in its treatment of The Heavens Are Telling in which trio and orchestra also contributed to the glory of Haydns climax of the first part of the oratorio. There was another superb rallying to accomplish some great music in the performance of Achieved. Saturday, July 19. Nice day. Avon our daughter came up from Salt Lake about noon. so happy to see her.
