Show Monday, August 18. Nice day rather warm. Cleone & I went up to Brigham city and attended funeral of Abel S Rich nice Apsotle Harold B Lee Dilworth Young Roy Wilker and two others spoke. Splendid tribute. Many flowers. House crowded. Many members of Family there. Letters from Avon & Bro. L Rich. Dr Jr talked with Thair Rich in Washington this evening. Tuesday, August 19. Nice day. I have been home all day. Mother is much better. We wrote note to Sharlene Glasmann for her birthday 23 of august. Myrene called this evening. Nothing special. Obituaries. Abel Rich. Abel Sargent Rich, 69, Brigham City, died Thursday in Dee hospital of injuries suffered in a construction accident earlier in the day. Mr. Rich was shingling a roof at the residence of a son, Elliott Rich, 865 Patterson St, when he apparently lost his balance and fell 15 feet to the ground. He had served as mayor of Brigham City for one term and had been a state senator for two terms. He was former president of the Brigham City Lions club. At the time of his death he was a member of the Box Elder county school board. Mr. Rich had been an LDS seminary teacher the past 36 years. He was a teacher at the LDS Box Elder seminary at the time of his death. For 13 years he served in the bishopric of the LDS Brigham City First ward and had been president of the LDS Box Elder stake three years. He served four years as a member of the stake presidency in other capacities. He had been president of the LDS Canadian mission from 1935 to 1938 and also president of South Box Elder stake high priest quorum. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural college in 1913 and received his masters degree in 1926 from Brigham Young University. On June 18, 1908 he married Alice Redd in the LDS Salt Lake temple. The couple moved to Brigham City in 1913. He was born Sept 16 1883 in Paris, Idaho, a son of Abel George and Mary Innes Rich. He was reared in Bear Lake county. Surviving are his widow, Brigham City; the following sons and daughters Lowell R Rich, Tucson, Ariz; Carlyle Rich, Lafayette, Calif; Mrs. Ellery R Cook, Concord, Calif; Dr. Homer Rich and Elliott Rich, Ogden, and Wayne Rich, Logan 16 grandchildren, two brothers, Ivan Rich, Brigham City, and Coulsen Rich, Ogden. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 pm in the LDS Box Elder stake tabernacle, Bishop Raymond Payne of the LDS Brigham City first ward officiating. Friends may call at the Harold B Felt fuenral home, Brigham City, Sunday evening and Monday until time of services. Burial will bein Brigham City cemeter. |
