Show ADDRESS BY E. W. LITTLEFIELD, UTAH CONSTRUCTION & MINING CO. BEFORE UTAH SECURITY DEALER'S ASSOCIATION, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH SEPTEMBER 26, 1961 MR. CHAIRMAN AND GENTLEMEN J Tonight I have decided to break with tradition and to sacrifice courtesy to accuracy. This requires me to alter the customary introduction to my remarks. Starting with my Chamber of Commerce days I have by actual count in the last five years made 78 speeches, which, without exception, began with the statement that I was delighted to be wherever I was at the time which was, of course, on the Speaker's Platform and in fact was about the last place in the world I wanted to be at the time. I have never yet felt at home on the Speaker's Platform, but at least I can say tonight that I am probably about as close to home as I can expect to get. Here we are close to the family birthplace and 1 see among you a goodly number of friendly faces stockholders, bankers, suppliers, and long-suffering and faithful relatives. I can also say with complete sincerity that I am grateful to you on two scores first, the compliment of your being here, and second, the opportunity given me to speak about Utah Construction & Mining Co. It seems altogether appropriate that I do so, for there is much in common between our Company and the people of this state. This is the birthplace of the Company which was launched 6l years ago in Ogden. Nine of our 10 directors were born here and the majority of our stock is still registered in Utah names. Utah remains an important point of company operations. So tonight I feel like the wayward son who has been asked to return home and give an accounting of the stewardship of the assets entrusted to company care, |
