End product produced by construction industry is unique - unmovable, costly, complex, durable 2. Profit motive by purchaser of construction services is not always present. a. Bart of demand arises to provide necessary facilities. b. Balance of demand influenced by ability of owner to put facilities to profitable use. 3. Demand inelastic- little contractor can do to influence purchase or its timing by customers. Decisions based largely on other reasons. 4. Inelastic demand and nature of produce allow postponable purchasing and produce wide fluctuations in demand. Local demand is important and can fluctuate more widely than national demand. 5. Nature of produce and reasons for its purchase influence methods of operation of construction industry. a. Long lead time before actual construction. |
