Show ADDRESS BY E. W. LITTLEFIELD BEFORE THE DRAFT NO. 1 NICE ELEVENTH ROCKY MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE CAREFREE, ARIZONA - FEBRUARY 2, 1967 February 2, 1967 The. text for my sermon today is taken from a cartoon showing an irate president reporting to a glum board of directors and saying, "I regret to announce that despite governmental interference in business and a never ending snarl of bureaucratic red tape, our corporation has the highest net income in its history." This is our story, and I propose to elaborate on it. For the better part of 20 years in greater or lesser degree my associates and I have been out of sympathy with virtually every political administration that has been in power. In the good company of men like yourselves we have viewed with alarm the further encroachment of government on our business and personal lives, the further extension of big labor and big government, the ineptness of our foreign policy, the mounting burden of taxes, the increased cost of doing business, and many another evil familiar to you all. We didn't see too much that was fair in the "fair deal, "didn't much like what was new in the "New Frontier," and are not too convinced that the "Great Society" is all that great. While all this was going on, let's look at what has happened to us. Twenty years ago we were primarily a heavy construction company operating in the Western United States. Our profits were $942,000 - - 25 a share. On the average they have doubled about every six years and last year amounted to $13, 175, 000, or $3. 06 a share. Our theater of operations has expanded |
