Show JULY 22, 1969 REMARKS BY E. W, LITTLEFIELD FOR GUY V. SPERRY DINNER LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: At the outset let me welcome you here as we gather together to honor Guy Sperry. This party is to the best of my knowledge without precedent in the history of Utah Construction. Nor is it intended that it shall in any way establish precedent for the future. We meet not so much to celebrate Guy's retirement but to express our appreciation and affection for the way he has lived and worked in association with all of us here. We come here to praise him, not to bury him. Guy is an uncommon man, and special circumstances justify special treatment. History will show that we have in our midst one who has never failed when duty called, one who gave all that was asked and more, one who performed to perfection whatever the task required, who - -over-worked and underpaid - - put up with whatever burdens befell and did so always with great good humor. I ask you all to join me in a toast to a flawless performer, Hazel Sperry. Now let us turn our attention to our other honored guest this evening who requires more qualified comment. If I may indulge in a personal recollection, I first met Uncle Guy in 1951. These were the days in Utah when there were no private secretaries, private offices were few in number and the spittoon was still a status symbol, even for those of us of questionable markmanship.
