Title	1878 Ogden City Directory
Description	The Polk Directories contain business and residential addresses and phone numbers for the Ogden Area from 1870 to the present.
Biographical/Historical Note	The city directory will contain an alphabetical list of citizens, listing the names of the heads of households, their addresses, and occupational information. Sometimes a wife's name will be listed in parentheses or italics following the husband's. Other helpful information might include death dates for individuals who had been listed in the previous year's directory, names of partners in firms, and forwarding addresses or post offices for people who had moved to another town.

It has been the custom of the miners rather to make fan of the claim that there are good mines around Ogden, but this has been owing to the want of professional or scientific skill displayed. In the fall of 1877 some experienced miners and prospectors ex¬amined the hills and canyons, and being convinced the region was a mineral bearing country, explored with good success, and assays of ore found by them in "true fissure veins" exhibit rich treasures of both gold, silver and iron in abundance. The miners have or¬ganized the Weber Mining District, which includes Ogden, North Ogden and Huntsville, in Ogden Valley, and the following is a list of the mines now held and more or less, developed and recorded in the records of W.
