An election was recently held for city officers, which, through some infor¬mality, was set aside and the old officials held over: They are as follows: Mayor, E. P. Johnson; Councilors, E. F. Ferris, W. C. Johnson, J. M. Langsdorf, L. Eliel, L. Detners, J. W. Guthrie, H. House, A. Hardenbrook, and one vacancy; D. D. Ryan, Marshal; H. P. Johnson, Recorder; L. Eliel, Assessor and Collector; T. E. Roach, Coroner; O. D. Cass, Quarantine Physician; T. J. Black and E. C. Jacobs, Justices of the Peace; A. Hardenbrook, L. Demers and H. House, School Trustees. MENDON Is situated on the west side of Cache Valley, and directly at the eastern foot of the ridge over which the Utah and Northern climbs to enter the valley. It is a pleasant little town of some 1,000 inhabitants. Henry Hughes is Bishop; Ralph Foster, Justice of the Peace; Walter Paul, Constable; Ole Sonne, Isaac Sorenson and A. Anderson, School Trustees. LOGAN. Across the valley from Mendon, in a northeasterly direction, and ten miles distant by the railroad line, is the beautiful and thrifty town of Logan. The first settlers came to this locality from Smithfield, June 21st, 1859. On July 3d, John P. Wright, John Nelson and Israel J. Clark got lots ready, and the first drawing for pieces of land was done, about twenty families being prominent on the occasion: and by the close of 1859, forty families were on the ground. The The present population is about 4 000. One of the most prominent features of the City of Logan is the magnifi¬cent temple being erected by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latte-day Saints, ground for which was broken on the 15th of May, 1877, and the corner stones were laid on the 17th of September following. The main building is 103 by 79 feet, inside; has two large towers, one in the centre at the cast end ex¬tending 30 feet square at its base, and 155 feet to the top of its dome; the other on'tlie west is 12 feet lower. On the north and south sides of these towers, touching them and the main building, are four octagon stair cases, two on the cast 102 feet in height, and two on the west 98 feet in height. The extreme length and breadth of the main building, including towers and buttress, is 171 by 95 feet; height to top of battlements on side walls, 80 feet. Extending out to the north 104 feet is a building for convenience, 36x88 feet, and 22 feet high to Plows, Harrows, Rakes, Cultivators, &c.. at Sidney Stevens'. 79 A.J.
