Show 12 13 SERVICES FOR STUDENT GOVERNMENT MULTICULTURAL STUDENTS Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 626-7330 Coordinator: Jeffrey Simons The Multicultural Center, in close cooperation with other academic and student assistance departments of the university, provides minority students academic and financial support in addition to job placement assistance. Leadership training, tutoring and scholarship information are available through the Center. Follow-up assistance is provided to help students with their academic and personal needs. SERVICES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES Location: Student Service Center, Room 181 Telephone: 626-6413 Director: LaMar Kap Physically challenged and learning disabled students are eligible for specialized support services provided through this office. Service programs may include reading for the visually impaired, note taking and interpreting for the hearing impaired, and scribe services for the mobility impaired. Other services include registration assistance, specialized tutoring, counseling, academic advisement, and personal development programs. SERVICES FOR WOMEN STUDENTS Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 626-6090 Coordinator: Margarita Guerra Services of this Center are designed to provide a supportive environment to help students returning to pursue their education, meet challenges, establish objectives, and achieve their academic goals. The following services, programs, and workshops are offered to assist students: advisement, academic and personal counseling, life transition skills workshops, seminars, and scholarships. VETERANS Location: AFFAIRS Miller Administration Building, lower level, Room 103 Telephone: 626-6040 Coordinator: John Vickroy The Veterans Affairs Office (VAO) provides a variety of services designed to make education a successful experience for veterans. As the liaison between the university and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the office provides the necessary documentation for veterans to receive their educational benefits under the GI Bill. Additional services include academic advisement, class scheduling assistance, career planning assistance, academic skills assessment and help becoming oriented to a university atmosphere. The office also coordinates services for veterans through other service providers on campus for both academic and personal needs. ASSOCIATED STUDENTS (ASWSU) Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Second Level Telephone: 626-6349 Advisor: Judy Hurst The Associated Students of Weber State University (ASWSU) has a two-fold purpose: to represent the concerns, needs and desires of the student body, and to assist in the development of students. ASWSU is the university’s official representative for all fee paying students and is committed to aggressively pursuing comprehensive internal and external student representation. ASWSU acknowledges dissimilar opinions by attempting to achieve a broad-based representation. ASWSU provides and supports programming and activities designed to involve and enrich the student body. ASWSU provides students with a variety of services STUDENT LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Second Level Telephone: 626-6349 Advisor: David Asencio Participation in the following programs provides leadership opportunities in addition to personal development: ¢ Fall Student Leadership Conference - is open to all students on campus and is designed to provide leadership opportunities and instruction in an informal setting. It is held prior to the beginning of Fall Quarter. ¢ Campus Outreach Leadership Academy - is a monthly program of leadership instruction and experiences presented by Weber State students to local high school leaders. ¢ Profiles in Leadership - is a monthly forum for the benefit and enrichment of the students on campus. It is designed to introduce them to local leaders and gives them an opportunity for discussing leadership styles and issues. and opportunities for community interaction and co-curricular learning unique to a campus setting. ASWSU is responsible to the student body of the university and provides answers and, whenever possible, solutions to student questions and concerns. ASWSU STUDENT SENATE Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Room 250 Telephone: 626-6349 The Student Senate is the elected representative body of the Associated Students. There are seventeen senators, eight academic and nine non-academic. These constituencies include: Applied Science & Technology, Arts & Humanities, Black Students, Business & Economics, Education, Health Professions, Latino-ChicanoHispanic Students, Honours, Integrated and General Studies, International Students, Native American Students, Non-Traditional Students, Students With Disabilities, Residence Halls Students, Science, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Traditional Students, and Veteran Students. Senators are involved in every aspect of University life including University Academic and Administrative Standing Committees, Faculty Senate, Student Fees, and campus programming. Student Senate meets every Monday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. ASSOCIATION OF REGISTERED ORGANIZATIONS (ARO) Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Room 250 Telephone: 626-6349 Advisor: Stephen Hunt Over 100 clubs and organizations provide students with opportunities to put their education to work. Through such activities as our quarterly Welcome Weeks, the Association of Registered Organizations serves as a liason between its member groups and the University at large to promote and highlight the various benefits of involvement and participation. Whether your STUDENT AND ALCOHOL PROGRAM Location: Student Service Center, Room 173 Telephone: 626-6973 Coordinator: Susan Young This program focuses on education and prevention of drug and alcohol abuse. It is designed to encourage non-users of drugs and alcohol to continue to be non-users and helps users of drugs and alcohol find appropriate resources for intervention. The program also sponsors awareness activities for the general campus community. HEALTH INSURANCE FOR STUDENTS Location: Student Service Center, Room 165 Telephone: 626-6973 Coordinator: Susan Young The student Health Insurance plan exists to supplement the services of the WSU Health Center by providing comprehensive health insurance that meets the needs of most students at economical costs. Coverage is provided through Gerber Life Insurance Company (1-800-822-3287). The Health Center is staffed with a board certified physician, registered nurses, a medical technologist, and pharmacist. The physician is available from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Student Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (626-7924). BOOKSTORE Location: Shepherd Union, First Level Telephone: 626-6352 Manager: Dee Schenck The Bookstore sells books and supplies needed for classwork at Paperback books, stationery, art supplies, calculators, clothing and many other items are also available. Computers and software are available to students at discounted prices. The bookstore is on campus to serve all the students’ needs. DINING SERVICES Location: Student Union, Room 336 Telephone: 626-6087 Director: Jeannette Albrecht The Weber State University Dining Service offers a variety of dining alternatives for students, staff and faculty on campus. Catering services are also available. The Shepherd Union Building offers a variety of dining alternatives. Southwick The Counseling and Psychological Services Center is staffed to provide a broad range of professional counseling services to Weber State University students, staff and faculty. These services include assistance in personal, educational, or relationship issues by means of individual, couple, or group counseling. political, cultural or social, students are encouraged to augment their collegiate experience by joining an ARO group. HEALTH SERVICES COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES Location: STUDENT Location: Student Service Center, Room On the lower level, you will find the Junction Food Court, which includes Chick Fil-A, Oscar Mayer and a fresh bagel concept. On the east side of the building is Wildcat Corner, Pretzel Maker and coming soon, a fresh juice format. In the Gallery, located on the third level, your dining options are: Pizza Hut Express, Firehouse Grill, Subway, Specialty Plus and the Main Event. On the fourth level, the Skyroom offers a panoramic view and a fine dining restaurant atmosphere. The Skyroom is open for lunch. All facilities are open Monday through Friday, with limited service on Saturdays and Sundays. Hours of operation vary in each location. Promontory Tower is the residential life dining facility. A variety of meal plans are available (which include breakfast, lunch and dinner) for students living in the residence halls. Meals are also available to non-resident guests on a cash basis. The Depot convenience store (located in Promontory Tower) is open during the afternoons and evenings. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING SERVICES Location: Promontory Tower, Main Floor Telephone: 626-7275 Acting Director: Dennis Colestock The Department of Housing Services manages four residence halls and a dining center on the Weber State campus. All of these facilities are clustered on the south side of campus convenient to classes, recreational areas, and commercial developments. There are a variety of economical room styles and meal plans available to residential students. Programs and events addressing a wide variety of interests are offered on a continuous basis.
