Through WSU Online, students can be admitted, enroll, take courses, buy books, use the library and other campus services, and participate in extracurricular activities on line. WSU Online opened in the fall of 1997 with 20 courses, and new courses and activities are added each academic term. Some Online courses are self-paced and open enrollment (students may enter at any time); others begin and end with the regular academic calendar. ¢ INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSES Continuing education offers courses from a wide range of academic disciplines for students who cannot attend regularlyscheduled classes. This allows students to complete coursework at home (or anywhere) at their own convenience. Over 1,000 students enroll in this self-paced individualized mode of study each year, choosing from over 70 courses in more than two dozen disciplines. ¢ CERTIFICATE AND DEGREE PROGRAMS Distance learning staff work with several academic program areas to develop and deliver unique programs that combine selfdirected courses with intensive workshop sessions. In addition to board registry preparation courses in respiratory therapy and the radiologic sciences, distance learning programs are available at the associate level in respiratory therapy and at the baccalaureate level in advanced dental hygiene, advanced respiratory therapy, clinical laboratory science, health information management, health promotion, health services administration, and in four areas within the radiologic sciences. ¢ DISTANCE LEARNING SUPPORT Distance learning staff assist faculty in developing printed course materials, assist them with on-line course delivery, and are available to consult on course-development issues for any form of electronic delivery. Staff also provide support services for distance learning students. They use this marketing information to create marketing and promotional materials to inform the public about university offerings. The continuing education network of collaborative working relationships reaches precollege students; working, re-entry and older adult learners; business and industry; governmental agencies; non-profit groups; public education organizations, and professional associations. Continuing education primarily addresses regional needs, but also seeks to expand Weber State University's influence by matching the assessed needs of national and global partners with university and community resources that can be tapped to develop quality learning experiences and an inclusive environment that helps everyone achieve full potential. These learning experiences range from academic degree programs and courses delivered in cooperation with the university's academic departments to customized noncredit courses that draw on community resources. Boyd, PROGRAMS LIBSCI Director Applied technical education includes programs of less than a baccalaureate degree, which are focused on job preparation.To be employable in 1, 2 or 3 years consider one of the applied technology programs which prepares the student with a technical skill, license, certificate, or associate degree upon completion of the program. Program descriptions follow the descriptions for bachelors degree programs in each departmental listing. Four-year bachelor degree programs are also options for applied technology students at the University who change their aspirations and opt to continue in school rather than seek employment at the conclusion of their program, or elect to return to school at a later date. A ladder concept is often built into bachelor degree programs which allows stop-out points for employment in a skill area. All Weber State University student support services are available to students who enroll in applied technology programs. Such services are designed to help students select appropriate career goals, maximize their learning potential, gain hands-on experience, and achieve successful employment.
