number necessary to receive a 2.0 average. All such students will not be eligible to participate in certain college-sponsored activities. (See Eligibility Standards.) Minus point standing is reported at the bottom of the student's report of grades^ This is considered adequate notice of standing for both probation and eligibility status. Any questions should be directed to the Director of Scholastic Standards, Room 141. I. ACADEMIC WARNING (1 to 10 grade points below "C" average). Students will be placed on academic warning when they earn 1 to 10 grade points below the number necessary to average a 2.0. For example: If a student has earned 15 credit hours10 hours of C and 5 hours of D, he will re-- ceive 20 grade points for his 10 hours of C and 5 grade points for his 5 hours of D. This will give him a total of 25 grade points which is 5 points below the 30 necessary for him to earn a 2.0 average. He will, therefore, be on academic warning and limited in registration to 15 hours exclusive of physical education. Such students should be aware that they are falling below the average required for graduation and that they may need to balance their total work load, improve their study techniques, change to a more appropriate major or take some other action to make their program more satisfactory to themselves and the college. II. ACADEMIC PROBATION (11 to 20 grade points below "C" average). Students will be placed on academic probation when they earn between 11 and 20 grade points below the necessary to average a 2.0. For example: If a student has earned 30 hours with 15 hours of C and 15 hours of D, he has earned 30 grade points with his 15 hours of C and 15 grade points with his 15 hours of D. This gives him a total of 45 grade points which is 15 less than the 60 required to earn a 2.0. Students on academic probation will be limited in registration to 14 hours, exclusive of physical education. They should contact their advisor or the Student Personnel Office immediately. If they are to succeed in their college work, it is important that immediate correction of their difficulty be made. Assistance is available. In addition to these stipulations any student, regardless of his cumulative grade point average, who falls below a grade point average of 1.0 for any quarter will be placed on probation. III. FINAL PROBATION (21 or more points below a "C" average). Students will be placed on final probation any time they receive 21 or more grade points below the number 40 required to average a 2.0. For example: A student has earned 60 quarter hours of credit with 5 hours of A which gives him 20 grade points, 5 hours of B which gives him 15 grade points, 20 hours of C which gives him 40 grade points, 20 hours of D which gives him 20 grade points, and 10 hours of E which gives him no grade points for a total of 95 grade points. Inasmuch as he would have to have 120 total grade points to average 2.0 with his 60 credit hours, he would thus be 25 points below the "C" averaee and would V>p nlaced on final probation. All students placed on final probation will be limited in registration to 12 hours and required to earn at least a "C" average during that quarter or they will not be permitted to re-register at the college. Their registration will be regulated by the Director of Scholastic Standards, who will also serve as their advisor until they are no longer on final probation. Students on final probation should make an appointment to see the Director of Scholastic Standards within the first two weeks of the quarter. IV. SUSPENSION Students on final probation who fail to earn a grade point average of 2.0 or better for that quarter will be suspended from the college for one year. If after this period they wish to re-enter the college, they should submit their application to the Registrar and may be approved by the Admissions Committee. EligibilityTo protect students from becoming involved in extracurricular activities when their scholastic record is not high enough to warrant the additional expenditure of time and to provide for fair representation of all who represent the institution, the college specifies minimum standards of eligibility. I. ELIGIBILITY STANDARDS To be eligible for participation in certain college-sponsored activities students must: 1. Be matriculated and carry 12 or more quarter hours in both the current and previous quarter. 2. Maintain a cumulative grade point of 2.0 or better. 3. Earn a grade point average of 2.0 or better for the previous quarter. 4. Any student placed on academic warning or probation will also be ineligible. 5. Present evidence of certification to the chib or group with whom he participates (certification of eligibility covering all the above criteria except the current quarter registration is printed on each individual's report report card).
