Show Division of Education Caseel D. Burke, Chairman The program for preparation of elementary and secondary school teachers is established in accordance with the certification requirements of the Utah State Department of Public Instruction, the bachelor degree requirements of Weber State College, and the nationally recognized standards for the preparation of teachers. The program is accredited by the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools and the Utah State Department of Public Instruction. The Division is responsible for planning and conducting the teacher education program and for recommending graduates to the State Department of Public Instruction for certification. A campus-wide representative Council on Teacher Education assists in developing policies and procedures and serves as a coordinating body on all matters relating to the program. The Division provides courses and services in the field of library science, designed to prepare librarians for school, industrial and public libraries. TEACHER EDUCATION Professor Caseel D. Blair Low Coordinator of Selective Admissions Blaine P. Parkinson The major goal of teacher education is to prepare teachers for the elementary and secondary schools of Utah. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for teacher certification directly to the Department of Education in other states of the Union. Students intending to pursue graduate degrees or advanced certification may build a firm base for advanced study through careful selection of fields of concentration and elective courses.
