Show committees are assigned: Cultural, Games, Hospitality, Leadership, Publicity, Arts and Crafts, Special Events, Social, Outings. Students are invited to apply to Student-Body officers, to the committee chairmen, or to the Union staff for assignments to these committees. Other Services Building and Grounds ServiceFor the student's class work and activities the college provides an adequate physical plant and a buildings and grounds staff which maintains an environment that is comfortable, healthful, and wholesome. The College LibraryThe College Library, located on the second floor of the Physical Science Building, provides a rich store of materials especially selected to serve students and faculty. The collection, constantly growing in cultural value, includes more than 60,000 volumes in addition to a working library of pamphlets, documents, and bibliographical aids. The college, through its library service, subscribes to about 250 literary, scientific, and educational periodicals, as well as to state and national newspapers. Weber State College recently acquired the Howell Library of approximately 12,000 volumes. This library, willed to the college by the late Judges James A. Howell, includes most American and English novels written before 1900. The library is open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. It is closed Sundays and holidays. MuseumsThe Zoological Collection, a collection of vertebrate animals mostly from the Intermountain Region, is housed in the Department of Biology. Preserved amphibians and reptiles, as well as standard study skins of birds and mammals, form the nucleus of what is intended to become a survey collection of the vertebrates of the western United States. Several cases of mounted specimens and a synoptic survey of insects and other invertebrates are also available for study. The Weber State College Herbarium is housed in the Life Science Division. The herbarium is representative of the plants of Weber County and is being rapidly expanded to cover the flora of Utah and adjacent states. It also contains 500 sheets of South Pacific plants and several hundred plants from the Eastern States. The herbarium is open to Weber State College students and to others whose training enables them to profit by its use. The Geological Museum is located in the Department of 62 Geology. The several collections of minerals, ores, rocks, and fossils add interest to geology classes. More than 150 species of fossils illustrate the development of life during geologic times. Part of the several hundred specimens are arranged according to Dana, and others are from important or interesting localities. The rock collections, consisting of more than 300 specimens, are arranged to show rock types and localities. College Bookstore The College Bookstore, located on the ground floor of the Union Building, is the source for all college text books and supplies. The bookstore will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily Monday through Friday. The evening hours will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday of each week. During the first two weeks of the quarter the bookstore is open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Stores Department and Visual AidsThe Stores Department is located in the Stores Building on the upper campus. Service pertaining to Visual Aids not available in the several divisions is provided through the Stores Department. Campus ParkingParking is available on or near the campus for faculty members and students. Faculty and students using campus parking facilities are required to pay a nominal fee, to register their vehicles with the college and appropriately display an official seal on the windshield of the vehicle.
