Show Glen McFarland OGDEN - Glen McFarland, 78, passed away July 23, 2004 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born July 3, 1926 in Ogden, the son of Glen and Florence Stanger McFarland. After graduation from high school, he went in the Army. While he was there he became a paratrooper. He married Lila Beverly Perry on January 9, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He has held many positions in the church, Scout Master, Mutual President, High Council, Bishop and Stake President and Patriarch. He was a Justice of the Peace in Marriott-Slaterville. Glen's greatest three loves were his wife, his family, and a good pickup truck or shiny new car. He and Leon Carnahan started "Glen and Leon's" Used Cars. People would come from all the surrounding states to buy from them because they knew they would be treated with dignity and fairness. But, let there be no doubt, his first and greatest love was Lila. In the last few weeks, I found him on his knees many times, praying not for his own health, but pleading for her health to get better, so that they could be together once again. Dad was no Clark Gabel, but he treated mother like royalty for as long as his worn, broken down body, his bad hip and overworked heart would permit him to, never ever giving up the fight. His last words to me were, "check on mom, will you." Surviving are his wife; five sons and one daughter, Dave G. (Carol P.) McFarland, Roy, UT; Douglas D. (Maren P.) McFarland, Farr West, UT; Randy L. (Vickie) McFarland, Plain City; Sherrie M. (John L.) Watson, currently serving a mission in Spain; Ron D. McFarland, Clearfield; Rick D. McFarland, Roy; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Carol (Earl) Lee, and Luceile Prince. He was preceded in death by a sister, one grandson, Mason Adam McFarland. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Marriott-Slaterville Ward Meeting House, 250 North 1500 West. Friends may call on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. Our city loses a stalwart supporter Weber Sentinel August 2004 Marriott-Slaterville City Council Report for July 2004 By Joyce VanTassell Planning Commission cancelled Because there were not enough commissioners to make a quorum, the planning meeting was cancelled for July. City Council approves business licenses City Council for Marriott-Slaterville met briefly in public meeting to approve business licenses for D & S Embroidery, H & H Electric and All Auto Creations. The council also discussed adopting the Wasatch Front Regional Council Natural Hazard Pre-Mitigation Plan. The resolution was approved, unanimously, making the city eligible for federal funds in case of disasters. Mayor Keith Butler thanked the council for its help cooking at the Freedom Celebration. Butler added that he felt things went well, saying, it "seems it [the Freedom Celebration] gets bigger every year." Bills for the event were being paid, with expenses for the celebration totaling within the budgeted amount. The city is in the final stages of working with the fire department to procure property and to eventually move the fire station. This will not take place until about 2007, but it will provide improved service to Marriott-Slaterville and neighboring communities. The engineering studies for load limits on 1200 West were discussed, with a maximum limit of 10 tons being recommended for the road. Present ordinances permit overweight trucks to come into the city for local delivery only. The public part of the meeting was completed, with an executive session following to discuss pending litigation and the purchase of real property. The Standard Examiner gave six area students $150 each for back-to-school fashion shopping, and reported the results on August 9, 2004. Our resident, Todd Spencer, was one of the six. |
