Show Hey Fremont: Gimme five! Silver Wolves' girls dominates to take their fifth straight state title INSIDE: Region 11 football teams get jump on season finale / 2B; Prep volleyball roundup / 2B BY JUSTIN JOHNSON_ Standard-Examiner correspondent jjohnson@standard.net SALT LAKE CITY Five times the fun. Five times the excitment. Five times the glory. With all five scoring runners in the top 10, the Fremont High girls cross country team delivered what might have been its most dominating performance of the season on the state's biggest stage the state 5-A championship meet. Under less than ideal weather and course conditions, the Silver Wolves blew the field away on Wednesday afternoon by scoring just 26 points, winning their fifth straight state championship by 76 points over second place Weber. "We tried to approach this meet just like we do every other one, we just want to go out and have fun," said Fremont's Cassie Ricks, who won the individual title with a time of 18:46. "We don't worry about what everyone else is doing; we just focus on the race and trying to do our best together." Ricks was followed closely by teammate Lexie Meyer, who won the Region 1 championship on Oct. 8, in sweeping the top two spots. "(Lexie) is an awesome runner and we try to work together," Ricks said. "This is just the third time this season that I've been able to beat her." Davis senior Shaylee Marler finished fifth, followed by Fremont's Jesse Chugg and Katie Chugg. The Darts' Fremont's Cassie Ricks celebrates as she crosses the finish line to win the girls 5-A race during the state cross country championship in Salt Lake City Wednesday.
