New Development Scheduled for Marriott-Slaterville, November 13, 2004 Standard-Examiner New Weber motel on tap Plaza to be built just off interstate BY JEFF DEMOSS Standard-Examiner staff jdemoss@standard.net MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE Plans by a local property owner to build a mixed retail development near the freeway are making their way through the city approval process. City officials said property owner Frank Blair is hoping to build a plaza on the southeast side of the off-ramp at Exit 349, where Pioneer Road (400 North) intersects Interstate 15. Plans for the 1.6-acre parcel include a motel, restaurant and gas station/ convenience store, Marriott-Slaterville City Planner Ken Martin said. Martin said the property is already zoned for commercial use, and the project has received preliminary approval from the city. But a final site plan still needs to pass before the city council and planning commission before work can begin. "Nothing is concrete yet," he said. "We still need to work out a final plan that addresses drainage, infrastructure, and some other related issues." Martin said Blair has also proposed a new road starting across the street from the proposed development and running north parallel to the west boundary of Mulligan's Golf and Game. That road would access more property owned by Blair to the north of the proposed development, he said. Blair declined to comment Friday on the plans until the city reaches a final decision on the project. Martin said that at least the road issue is slated to go before the city council on Nov. 18. |
