Standard-Examiner. Thursday-August 23. 2018 - After West Haven residents clamored against implementing a new property tax at a Public Hearing held on August 15*^ the City has decided to forego implementation of the new property tax. In the wake of that decision. West Haven officials faced the task of trimming near 10 percent from their 2019 budget, which was around $860,000. That turned out to not be too complicated, as the city leaders pulled the money from a new capital projects fund, ending with a $7.95 million general fund spending plan that eliminated the need for the new property tax. However, the notion of having to someday implement such a tax doesn't necessarily go away and could resurface when talks begin early next year to craft the 2020 spending plan. West Haven and Marriott-Slaterville City remain the only two Weber County cities without a city property tax. |
