Vandalism and criminal mischief are increasing in Marriott-Slaterviile and the surrounding cities. Mailboxes have been destroyed, yard decorations stolen, vehicles are racing up and down streets, nuisance parties are keeping residents up into the night. Also, this year has seen a dramatic increase in burglaries and criminal activity across the county. The Sheriffs Office reminds you to make sure you lock your vehicles and garages. Burglaries this year have increased because people leave their garage door open and vehicles unlocked. Always remember to lock your vehicles, remove anything valuable from your vehicle, and double check that your garage door is shut and secure. Criminals prey on crimes of opportunity and locking vehicles, locking doors, and closing garages dramatically decrease burglary opportunities. Sheriff Deputies are constantly patrolling neighborhoods in Marriott-Slaterviile City and often see open garages, even late at night. Don't be surprised to get a knock on your door late at night by a Sheriff Deputy reminding you to shut your garage if it's left open. Residents and businesses are asked to take precautions so that they don't find their business, home, garage, or vehicle burglarized in the moming because it was left unlocked. If you see suspicious activities around your neighborhood or suspicious people trying to get into vehicles or garages, please call 9-1-1 immediately. For non-emergencies call Weber Dispatch at 801-629-8221. The Sheriffs Office will gladly respond to find out what is happening. Thank you and have a wonderful and safe summer!
