Ralph W. Hardy...Says two forms of TV cant co exist. Ex Salt Laker Airs TV by Subscription Ralph W. Hardy, former Salt Lake City radio and television officials and now a vice president of Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc., Wednesday said the burning issue in the TV industry is the future of subscription television. The network official here on a vacation and to visit members of his family, expressed the view that, for competitive reasons, subscription TV and the present free distribution system could not possibly coexist. HE SAID he favored preservation of the present free system and is convinced that public sentiment is rapidly turning in that direction. The first wave of sentiment, he commented, was strongly in favor of a subscription system. But when the individual who felt he was willing to pay a dollar for a world series baseball game began thinking of a sizeable monthly bill for telecasts, he began shifting to the free system. I think there has been a strong change during the past three months. TV, Mr. Hardy said, continues to be a No. 1 item of interest for Congress because of its political implications and impact. He added that the Congress is now in process of an extensive investigation of network operations to determine if stations cannot be made available to larger number of communities. Mr. Hardy, who left Salt Lake City to take the position of vice president in charge of government relations of the National Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters, was recently appointed to his new position. He will take over as vice president in charge of the networks Washington office upon completion of his vacation. Saturday, August 13, 1955 Cool last night, little rain Cooler today. She and Royal & Myrelle & Husband have been to Bear Lake today Nothing special. I have been reading Mothers letters to me while I was at College 1890 to 1893.
