He Liked to Invent Diamond Maker Is Ogdenite The General Electric scientist who played one of the major roles in successfully producing a man made diamond, announced Tuesday, is another Ogdenite who has left his home to win fame. . His is Dr. H. Tracy Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hall, of 638 28th St. His wife is the former Ida Rose Langford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Langford, of 3292 Orchard Ave. Dr. Hall worked with three other scientists in the initial stages of the experiment, then took over alone to design a high temperature, high pressure piece of equipment that will produce pressures of more than 100,000 atmospheres at temperatures over 5,000 degrees. Always Inventing Things His success has merely affirmed an early prediction by his mother. He was always inventing things and doing things in school, Mrs. Hall said. I knew hed hit upon something. He was among the first to get those little radio sets (crystal sets). He was always trying to invent things. Dr, Hall is a graduate of Ogden High School and Weber College. He received a bachelors degree in chemistry from the University of Utah in 1942 and his masters degree in 1943. He worked for the U.S. Bureau of Mines until hi enlisted in the Navy in April 1944. He was serving as a radar officer when he was discharged in May 1946. He returned to the University of Utah and received his doctrat of philosophy in August 1948. In September of 1948 he became affiliated with General Electric while on a tour of the nations leading research laboratories.
