Show Americans Count Their Blessings By COMBINED AP and UP Americans at home and abroad paused today to count their blessings. They thronged to houses of worship, gathered before their firesides and prepared to eat just a bit too much for comfort. Then there were parades, football games and special attention to the unfortunate. In Utah the observance includes a variety of weather, the traditional Utah USAC football game and a lot of eating. In the heavily populated northern sections of the state, the day started off with light snow flurries that put a skiff of white flakes on streets and lawns. More was predicted this afternoon. By mid morning there had not been a fatal automobile accident. In Gettysburg, Pa., President Eisenhower romped with his three grandchildren this morning in a Thanksgiving Day. frolic at his farm and gave 7 year old David a lesson in pony driving. Mr. Eisenhower supervised a ride the three youngsters took in a two wheel wicker pony cart. David was driving. Dressed like a gentleman farmer, the President played with the children before carving a 40 pound turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Just for today, his physicians let him ignore his strict, convalescent diet. ON ROAD TO RECOVERY He had a special reason for being thankful. So did the nation. Today marked the passing of the second month since his Sept. 24 heart attack. No complications have developed and he is well on the road to recovery. And those in our armed forces stationed throughout the world girded for a gobbler dinner and all the trimmings. In Heidelberg, Germany, a quarter of a million GIs had their sights set on at least one pound of turkey each plus all the trimmings. In Korea, more than 30,000 American soldiers devoured a gourmets dinner even though camped in bleak hills guarding the 2 and one half year old armistice. Americans in the Netherlands, some 3,500 of them, celebrated the landing of our pilgrim fathers more than 300 years ago. Friday, November 25, 1955 Beautiful day.
