Most Students Lucky to Get One Scholarship; Benson Twins Wonder Which Ones to Accept Most high school seniors strive mightily to win one scholarship, but for a set of Ben Lomond High School twins, the problem is just the opposite. Theyre wondering which of many awards to leading universities and colleges to accept. Faced with the unusual task are Lyle and Lynn Benson, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Benson, 1413 A Ave., who have been making a whole list of academic records at the Ogden school. Both A students through junior and senior high school, they have been active in extracurricular activities as well. Several Big Offers After being offered a principal appointment to Annapolis by Sen. Arthur V. Watkins, a 5,600 scholarship to Columbia University and a University of Utah scholarship, Lyle has more or less settled on an offer of a 6,800 award to attend Harvard University. Lyle also has been notified that he is one of 1,300 finalists in the nation for 100 General Motors scholarships. The recipient of one of these can attend any school in the United States that he desires. Lynn, too, is faced with a host of offers, including full tuition grants to Brigham Young University and Utah State Agricultural College, and a U. of U. award. He also was awarded the Utah Parent Teachers 100 scholarship, good in any Utah college and won both the local and state Elks most valuable student award and with it 175 cash. Both are active in the BLHS Reserve Officer Training Corps program with Lyle serving as battalion commander and Lynn second in command as battalion executive officer. Lynn is publicity manager of the student body, editor of the school supplement, vice president of the science clan, historian of the Cadet Officers Clan, and class Red Cross and Boys Assn. representative. He plans on studying administrative education. Lyle, who plans on majoring in engineering in college, is president of the Cadet Officers Clan and assistant editor of the school newspaper. Both boys have consistently been on the honor rolls for their scholastic and extra curricular accomplishments.
