Show SERVICES OF THE COLLEGE Student Personnel Services The development and coordination of Student Personnel Services is the responsibility of the Dean of Students. Under his direction, needed policies and procedures for student personnel are developed and recommended to the President and the Administrative Council. Those in charge of carrying out these assignments include: Merle E. Allen, Dean of Students; Alan J. Dayley, Dean of Men; Mrs. Marva H. Gregory, Dean of Women; Ralph D. Marsden, Director of Counseling; Sterling G. Gerber, Director of Scholastic Standards; James D. Condie, Director of Housing; J. Farrell Shepherd, Director of the Weber State College Union; Dean Black, Union Program Director. A Director of Placement Services will be added to this staff this year. GUIDANCE AND TESTING SERVICE The objective of the Guidance Service is to assist the student to make intelligent decisions regarding his personal, academic, and vocational needs. The central office is in Room 139, Building One. Organization for GuidanceWeber State College has a long tradition of close cooperation between the student and the teacher. A student is encouraged to consult with his teachers and major department or division heads on his problems. Each student will be assigned a personal adviser appropriate to his academic major. He is encouraged to consult with this adviser on problems of registration as well as other academic and personal problems. When a student is placed on academic warning, probation or final probation, he should limit his registratioin as required by the academic regulations of the college. He is encouraged to consult with his adviser and/or a counselor in the Student Personnel Division concerning his problem. The adviser may refer the student to the Counseling Office with recommendations for personal help at any time. (See Academic Regulations.) Pre-registration Testing and GuidanceEach Freshman is required to take the Placement Tests prior to registration. These tests include an English, science, and a mathematics achievement test. These tests are scheduled prior to the opening of each quarter. (See the calendar at the front of this catalog.) A student planning entrance in the autumn quarter is encouraged to take these tests in April or May of his senior high school year. 55 |
