Show Speech and Drama Minor: Students minoring in Speech and Drama must complete Speech 2 or 3, 5, 7, 15, 40, 50, and 65. Recommended also are English 25, 60, 84, 89. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY PROGRAM Play Production: Play production at Weber State College is under the administrative guidance of the Division of Humanities and is sponsored by the Department of Speech and Drama as Weber State College Theatre. The major season of plays consists of a major play presented each quarter of the year under the direction of college staff, but combining the acting talents and services of both college and community people. Each year one or more musical productions are presented in collaboration with the Department of Music. Arena Theatre productions are presented, one each quarter, under the direction of college staff. Other plays, prepared as an outgrowth of work in directing classes, may also be presented in the Arena Theatre to invited audiences. Also, as a part of the Weber State Theatre program, such productions as the following are encouraged: Plays prepared for tour during the school year and presented to school audiences in Ogden and the immediate area; plays prepared for presentation at selected points over the state; a summer play season is offered each year involving both members of the community and college. These productions are intended to satisfy theatre needs of both adult and children's audiences. Courses of Instruction 005. Summer Theatre WorkshopPlay production on laboratory basis. Voice and DictionMechanics of voice production and word utterance for better functioning of voice, articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation. A W (3). Elzey, Rowley 4. *Introduction to the TheatreCritical appreciation and enjoyment of live theatre, motion pictures, and television from an audience point of view. A W S (3). Staff 5. Oral ReadingSelection of material for various oral reading purposes and basic techniques. (Recommended for the general student and speech majors.) W (3). Elzey, Noid 7. InterpretationOral reading into more advanced levels of literature with emphasis on techniques of impression and expression. Prerequisites: Speech 5 or permission of the instructor. S (3). Noid 12. Principles of Public SpeakingSelection of subjects for specific purposes, fundamental skills of speech preparation and delivery, and basic culture for speech.
