Dee and St. Benedict's hospitals participating in the medical technology curriculum. 162 BACTERIOLOGY Students wishing to complete a bacteriology major should take the following courses in addition to the area requirements: Bacteriology 1, 5, 120, 140, 160, 161, 162, 190, 191; Mathematics 14 and 18; Physics 51, 52, and 53; Biology 111 and 130; Psysiol-ogy 1 and 101; Zoology 1 or 4, and 110, Zoology 160 or 170; English 126; and a course in Biochemistry. A minor in Bacteriology will require at least 25 quarter hours credit in departmental courses as recommended by the advisor. Courses of Instruction 1. Introductory MicrobiologyMicroorganisms as biological forces in personal health, family living, and professional training. Four lectures and one laboratory- A W S (5). Staff 5. Elementary Public Health Public health principles and practices to promote citizen responsibility for effective community public health programs. S (3). Staff 120. Water and Foods MicrobiologyRole of water and foods in transmitting agents of disease. Prerequisite: Bacteriology 1. Four lectures and one laboratory. A (5). Hayes 140. Soil MicrobiologyMicrobial changes in soils affecting plant and animal growth and distribution. Four lectures and one three-hour laboratory weekly. Previous course in bacteriology, botany, or zoology recommended. S (5). Staff 152. Applied Clinical LaboratoryGiven in an approved hospital school of medical technology accredited by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and American Medical Association. Work represents practical internship directed by a qualified pathologist. Credit will be given upon certification of satisfactory hospital training. Prerequisites: Bacteriology 1, 5, 161. A (5).
