Show DIVISION OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION Wendell L. Esplin, Chairman The Technical Education Division is organized to give instruction in the following four major fields: Engineering Technology, Industrial Technician, Industrial Arts, and Skilled Craftsman through day trade and evening programs. It is intended that the varied course offering will give students enough background to find employment in skill, research, design, development, production, operation, control, installation, maintenance, supervision, and technical sales. Recent development of rocket industries in Utah offers students exceptional job opportunities at attractive salaries. To satisfy the variety of student needs, classes are usually scheduled during both the day and evening hours. Students should consult their department advisers to determine the most appropriate times. Industrial Engineering Technology. This is a baccalaureate program designed to train persons in manufacturing, communications, transportation and mechanical power. Students will have an opportunity to concentrate in one of four major areas: Mechanical Power Engineering Technology, Tool and Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, and Industrial Engineering Technology. A composite program may be elected depending upon the needs of the individual, provided the program is approved by the department head and the Chairman of the Division of Technical Education. The Industrial Technician Program. This program provides two or three years of special training in each of the following fields: Automotive, Data Processing, Diesel, Drafting and Design, Electronics, Tool and Manufacturing, and Welding. Upon completion of the program, a student is qualified as a beginning technician. Many of the technician courses may be used toward the requirements for the B.S. degree. The Industrial Arts Program. This program provides the first two yeais of the industrial arts teacher education program. Students will find ample opportunity to prepare for the teaching profession. They should consult with the department head co icerning the junior and senior years. The Day Trade Program. This is designed to provide from one to two years of instruction in Auto Body, Automotive, Cosmetology, Diesel, Electronics, Machine Tool, and Welding. Actual and simulated work experiences are obtained through the completion of exercises, projects, and jobs carefully selected and in keeping with the policies of the institution. 275 |
