Show Marriott-Slaterville City History August 2018 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History August 2018 This has been a hot, dry summer with no rain. It feels hotter than usual because it is so dry. Utah is experiencing its' worst wildfire season in 15 years. Wildfire loses have also mounted in surrounding states, especially California. The result has been continual air pollution from the smoke all summer, similar to what we experience in the winter. As we maintain our lawns and gardens this summer we are reminded that storm water can carry pollutants into our water system. To protect our water from contamination here are some helpful tips: > Apply fertilizers only when necessary at the recommended amount. > Apply fertilizers as close as possible to the period of maximum uptake and growth for grass and other plants. > Avoid fertilizing near waterways or any storm drain. > Avoid over-watering lawns and gardens because this can carry away fertilizer from your lawn to the water system. > Fill fertilizer spreaders on a hard surface so that spills can be easily cleaned up. > Properly store unused fertilizers and properly dispose of empty containers. > Use native plants, shrubs and trees to reduce the amount of water and fertilizer needed. > Recycle yard waste such as grass clippings or leaves, for mulch or compost. DO NOT dump clippings or hard debris in waterways! Properly dispose of yard waste. Pollution can cause severe and permanent health problems and must be taken seriously. The storm water systems are designed for storm water only. Never put any oil, fuel, fertilizer or anything else besides storm water into drains. A $500 reward is being offered by the City for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals who dumped debris at parks, trails, roadsides, or damaged mailboxes. Any information can be reported to the Weber County Sheriff by contacting non-emergency dispatch at 801-629-8221. Planning Commission Meeting - August 21. 2018 - Cancelled City Council Meeting - August 16. 2018 Randy Phipps, the City CERT Coordinator resigned his position due to what he felt was the lack of sufficient funding for the CERT program. He feels the allotted budget of $1500.00 for the year was not enough to run the program the ways he thinks it should be. |
