Show Salt Lake Tribune June 5th 1955 Pneumonia Claims Life Of Church Worker, 77 Joseph Frederick Thomstorff, 77, active worker in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and prominent businessman, died Saturday at 8 a.m. in a Salt Lake hospital, of pneumonia. Mr. Thomstorff had served on an LDS mission to the Northern States Mission returning about two months before his death. At 19 years of age he served an LDS mission to Germany and at the time of his death was a high priest in the Grandview LDS Ward. EMPLOYED as the German representative for Armour and Co. Mr. Thomstorff traveled throughout Europe for the company and later traveled in Asia for the American Importing and Exporting Co. He also introduced educational and industrial motion pictures in Russia and at the time of the Revolution, was taken prisoner. He was later released through the efforts of the U.S. government. Later, he was engaged in a brokerage business in New York and returned to Salt Lake City about six years ago. Born Jan. 12, 1878, in Spanish Fork, Utah County, he was a son of August Frederick and Elizabeth Anderson Thomstorff. HE MARRIED Harriete McKellar, in Salt Lake City and was later divorced. He married Bertha Wright in California. Survivors are his widow, Salt Lake City; one brother, August Carl Thomstorff, Salt Lake City and one sister Mrs. Elizabeth Renshaw, Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services Will be conducted Tuesday noon at 260 E. South Temple, where friends may call Monday 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday until time of services. Burial will be in Salt Lake City Cemetery. Ezra Thomas Passey OGDEN, Weber County Ezra Thomas Passey, 66, 2432 Van Buren Ave., died Saturday about 11 P.m. at his work at Utah General Depot. Born Aug. 24, 1888, Paris, Idaho, to John Parley and Elizabeth Clifton Psssey. Married Mary Irettia Oakey April 12, 1911, in Salt Lake LDS Temple. Member of Ogden Twelfth LDS Ward. Operating engineer at Utah General Depot. Survivors widow, one son, Rex William, Sugar City, Idaho; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Nalder, Ogden; Mrs. Inez Bird, Salt Lake Tuesday, June 7, 1955 Warmer today 81 degrees. Quite sultry this evening. I have been home all day. Ezra Paulsen came up from Salt Lake to see me about writing my biography. He is going to start right away. Will take him five or six months I have been look over old letters some today. Myra was so dear to some and put them in books in regular order. Dr Jr called and helped me put screen door on. |
