The Herald Journal MONDAY, JANUARY 3, 1955 Logan (Cache county) Utah GONE NOW IS NINETEEN FIFTY FOUR How quickly you have passed away Oh year of Nineteen fifty four; It seems but yesterday, That you came knocking at our door! You came, a child with white wings, Sparkling in the air; Wings of lacy beauty, That nature helped to make you fair. Then stronger grown, You lightly stepped across the earth, A warm mind came, A new creations birth. You waved a wand and lo a carpet green With flowers gay;. Chased all the clouds, Chill winds and snow away. Your radiant summer With her bounteous fruits and grain; Kissed green trees and flowers With glistening drops of rain. Then beautious Autumn, The loveliest season yet, Painted the maples red, And all the Earth with beauty set. The leaves of gold Go dancing o er the lawn; With brilliant sunsets Followed by a rosy dawn. The moon comes up Behind a lacy fringe of pines; With twinkling stars, Over all the earth they brightly shine. November with a last few leaves On trees so bare, With dark clouds hovering around The chill of snow to warn us in the air. The last chrysanthemums blooming Lift their heads to pray; Soon winter snow will cover them, They too will pass away. December clothes you once again In spotless white; Leaving us now with memories sweet, Am the tolilng of the bells you pass into the night. Lettir H. Rich
