The Japanese Cultural Property Protection Commission said Wednesday that 120 cases of tomb burglary have been reported so far this. year. It said the cemetery plunder consists mostly of clay images and jewels ripped from tombstones and sold to foreigners as art objects. By Associated Press NEW YORK, March 23 Gen. Douglas MacArthur said Wednesday he would have been most emphatically against bringing Russia into the Japanese War at the time of the Yalta Conference, but no one consulted him. MacArthur Rips Yalta Concessions to Russ To make vital concessions to Russia to gain this end wouldhave seemed fantastic to him, MacArthur added. He did not even know the Yalta Conference was being held at the time, he said. The wartime Far East commander said the imminent collopse of Japan was clearly apparent several months before Yalta when he seized the Philippines. All of my dispatches and reports clearly enunciated this viewpoint. Had my views been requested with reference to Yalta I would most emphatically have recommended against bringing the Soviet into the Pacific Wai at that late date. To have made vital concessions for such a pur pose woudl have seemed to me fantastic. As a matter of fact, MacArthur said, the time for Soviet Russia to have entered the war against Japan was after the Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbor...Millions of lives and untold agonies would have been spared by such a strategic course . . .He said he recommended this course most urgently in a message to Secretary of War Stimson on or about Dec. 13, 1941. I received no reply.
