Show 32 percent BOOST FOR 1954 ZCMI Notes 269,787 Net Profit ZCMI Department Store showed a net profit after taxes of 269,787 during 1954, it was reported at the firms annual stockholders meeting Wednesday in the company auditorium. This was an increase of 32 per cent over profits of the previous year. In his report to the stockholders, Pres. David O. McKay, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and president of ZCMI, revealed that the companys sales for the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 1955, showed an increase of 1.5 per cent over the previous year. Gains were recorded every month since July, offsetting decreases that had been reported in the early part of the year. The upward sales trend has continued each month of 1955, the report noted. It was explained that operating profit was greater because of a sales increase and a lower expense rate. Pres. McKay called attention to several improvements in the companys physical plant facilities made during the year, the most important of which was the stores new 550 car parking terrace. He also mentioned the firms recent honor in being designated by the Brand Names Foundation as Retailer of the Year among the larger department stores in the country.
