Ogden Standard Aug 25 55 Wales, land of Song, Heaps Praise on Choir LONDON (UP) The Salt Lake Mormon Tabernacle Choir rolled in triumph by train back to London today, warmed by enthusiastic praise lavished on them by a Welsh audience in Cardiff last night. The Welsh, whose national pastime is singing, cheered mightily for the 379 voice choir and critics comments were in superlatives. The choir sang in Cardiffs Sophia Gardens Pavillion before a capacity audience. Choir commentator Richard L. Evans, a member of the Latter day Saints Church Council of Twelve, was a little apprehensive about singing to an audience from the land of songs but thunderous applause soon drowned his fears. Critic Margaret Rees of the Welsh national morning newspaper The Western Mail said last nights performance of choral music should inspire and provide a new stimulant for Welsh choirs. MORE PRAISE Joseph McMahon of the Swansea Evening Post said precision discipline and sincerity are the outstanding characteristics of this great choir. Jack Rodger of the Newport Argus said it was an extremely polished performance and one which undoubtedly taught much to Welsh choirs. Last nights concert Was the third in Britain. The first two were at Glasgow, Scotland, and Manchester, England. Sunday, the choir sings at Royal Albert Hall here in London and leaves Monday for a tour of the continent. The choir members plan to go sightseeing in London before the Sunday concert and will attend a reception tomorrow given by the London county council officially welcoming them to London. The big day is Saturday, however. The entire choir is to attend a ground breaking ceremony for a new Mormon temple at New Chapel about 80 miles outside LDS Church President David 0. McKay said today the ceremony is to be held Saturday on schedule. He said there will be brief service, singing and opening exercises.
