Show Salt Lake Tribune Nov 30 1955 British Jet Flies 3,300 Nonstop Miles By Associated Press LONDON, Nov. 29 A Comet III Britains hope in the jet passenger airliner race has flown nonstop 3,300 miles in 7 hours 22 minutes, it was officially announced Tuesday night. Sir Miles Thomas, chairman of British Overseas Airways Corp., said the new Comet made the flight and landed with enough fuel to have kept going for more than an hour and a half. BOAC said the test flight was made Monday in the United Kingdom area. The first announcement gave no other details. The transatlantic air route London to New York is roughly 3,300 miles. BOAC said the latest test of the Comet III was not comparable with flying this route where airliners often meet strong headwinds. |
