The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show London Plagued By Stifling Smog 1955 LONDON, Nov. 30 (UP) A thick smog turned London midnight black Wednesday at mid afternoon. The nose burning mixture of fog and gasses sent 24 special teams on a red alert to man equipment designed to seek out the smog gasses that resulted in 4,000 deaths during a four day smog in December 1952. Wednesdays was one of the heaviest in 18 months. Transportation was slowed to an exasperating crawl. London airport was socked in but limited flights began some hours after the smog developed. Shipping was held up in the Thames Estuary. Traffic accidents, mostly minor, plagued the city. One train took an hour to go 10 miles. |
