BRIAN NICHOLSON/Standard-Examiner A couple of pedestrians run through a dust storm, seeking refuge at Wells Fargo Bank on 24th Street and Washington Boulevard in Ogden Wednesday. Standard-Examiner staff jlopez@standard.net High winds in Utah Wednesday took out power and caused tractor-trailer rollovers before it brought in snow and rain. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory Wednesday morning for the northern Wasatch Front. "It's pretty common to have snow in April," meteorologist Andrew Church said. "This wind is probably not nearly as common." Park Valley, located in northwestern Box Elder County, posted the highest wind gust in the Top of Utah, 72 mph, at 11 a.m. In Weber County, highest gusts were found in Roy and Hooper. Both cities' gusts registered 53 mph around noon. Weber outages City, customers, time lapsed Roy, 230, 2 hours Farr West, 3300, 4 hours North Ogden, 3300, 2:45 hours S. Ogden, 2300, 1.5 hours Marriott-Slaterville, 300, 2 hours Throughout the day, wind rocked cars driving on the freeway. The wind advisory recommended that larger vehicles, such as RVs and 18 wheelers, remain off of the roads. On Interstate 80 near Wendover, two semis had tipped over by noon. Along with hazardous road conditions, some Utah residents went briefly without power. |
