Show 78 29 Services for Students with Disabilities Telephone: 801-626-6413 Location: Student Services, Suite 181 Advises students on issues related to disabilities and higher education and provides priority registration for qualified students Services • Classroom interpreting for deaf students • Textbooks on tape • Braille and large print materials • Assistance (or assisting devices) for students with mobility impairments • Test accommodations • Adaptive technology • Registration assistance and advisement • Other accommodations as needed Services for International Students Telephone: 801-626-6853 Location: Student Services, Suite 143 Student Advocacy and Adjustment • Assist students in their adjustment to new and unfamiliar living and learning situations • Arrange for tutoring necessary for students success • Assist students with immigration-related questions and concerns • Advise the International Student Senator • Advise International Student Organizations Consultation & Outreach • Organize orientation programs for new international students and faculty/staff • Present workshops and programs on international issues to students, faculty and staff • Organize International Student Emphasis Week & International Student Banquet • Assist faculty and staff with questions related to international students • Assist visiting faculty from other countries and their academic departments with immigration-related questions • Maintain an International Alumni data bank Upw About Upward Bound Support Services • Funded by federal grants to help low-income/first generation high school • Students from Davis and Weber counties prepare for higher education • Designed to provide a pre-college educational experience for selected high school students in Davis and Weber Counties • Students must meet the Federal guidelines set by the Department of Education in order to participate • Serve approximately 75 students annually from five area high schools: Ben Lomand, Ogden, Clearfield, Layton and Northridge • Program purpose is to increase the number of non-traditional students who enter and graduate from college Academic Year Programming • Tutorial instruction in literature, composition, foreign languages, mathematics, computer enhancement training and general science courses in an after school setting at the five target high schools • Saturday morning study hall • Individual counseling for students with personal or academic concerns • Monthly social, cultural and recreational activities Six-Week Summer Residential Program • Program personnel offer a summer academic enhancement program held on the campus of Weber State University • Students live in the residence halls, attend enrichment classes and participate in social, cultural and recreational activities Veterans Affairs Telephone: 801-626-6039 Location: Miller Administration, Room 103 Veterans Affairs is the liaison between Weber State University and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for educational benefits for veterans and dependents who are eligible for the GI Bill. In addition, Veterans Affairs provides a variety of support services to assist in making education a successful experience for veterans. About Veterans Upward Bound Support Services • Funded by federal grants to help veterans from Davis, Weber and Salt Lake counties • Targets low income, first generation or disabled college-bound veterans • Designed to increase the number of veterans who enter and graduate from college • Outreach centers located in Davis, Weber and Salt Lake counties • Coordinates with all campus services and activities for services for veteran students Academic Skills Development, Advisement & Assistance • Short-term remedial courses • Structured classes at Salt Lake Community College and Weber State University • Admissions, financial aid and career advisement • Assistance in securing support from available resources such as the Veterans Administration, veterans associations and various state and local agencies serving veterans Residential Life Housing Services Telephone: 801-626-7275 Location: Promontory Tower The department serves primarily those students who choose to live on campus in a living/learning environment which includes peer counseling, social education, academic support, and planned activities. As an advocate for students, the Dean of Students will respond to general student concerns and will assist students in finding solutions to their concerns. This office will help give direction to students who are uncertain where to find a response to specific concerns. Students with personal emergencies or crisis issues will find assistance and support through the Office of the Dean of Students.
