Background checks require up to eight weeks and should be completed, or in progress at the time of application into the Family Studies Program. See the Department Advisor for further details. Candidates accepted into the Family Studies Program will be assigned to a cohort group and proceed through the program in a structured sequence. If a student drops out of a cohort group sequence, for any reason, readmission is required to continue in the Family Studies Program. Upon completion of this degree, students are qualified to become a provisional Certified Family Life Educator and may apply through the National Council on Family Relations. General Education Refer to pages 37-42 for either Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts requirements. * Most students combine their Family Studies Major with either a minor or a dual major. Consult with your advisor when designing a dual major. Minors can include any minor from departments across campus. Typical minors include Psychology, Sociology, Gerontology, Social Work, Communications, and/or Business. Your minor should be designed to best support your personal goals or career direction. The Family Studies program fulfills the requirements for a provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE), offered through the National Council on Family Relations.
